The old chapel before the earthquake of 2012.
|
Kapilya San Jose grew from a
small-nipa hut structure to an octagonal-shaped chapel in 2003. The local community made improvements year
after year. Because of constraints in budget, our community was able to come up with local materials like wood poles for posts and thatched nipa and coconut fronds (sinibit) for roof. From time to time, we relied on sponsors for the needs of the small chapel.
However, time and the
elements have taken their toll. In
February 2012, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake which hit Guihulngan also destroyed
the walls, cracked the floors, and weakened the posts.

We had to reinforce the chapel
with bamboo poles and replace the roof with temporary materials.
However, in December 2014, Typhoons Queenie, Ruby and Senyang came in
rapid succession and brought strong winds and rains. It ruined our small chapel.

For this reason, the Kapilya
officers, with the advice and guidance of our priest Fr Niňo C. Pabalate, decided to reach for a daring but not
impossible dream: it is our hearts desire that our barangay, in honor of St
Joseph, will have a chapel which has a more enduring and permanent structure.

Soon to Rise: Kapilya San Jose (Architect's Perspective) |
We
dare to share this dream with you because we believe that you share the
nobility of its purpose – to have a place where residents of Brgy Magsaysay and other adjoining barangays can gather and
worship. Aside from the main chapel,
there will be a priest’s room, office, public comfort rooms and a multi-purpose
room. The chapel area is 450 square
meters.
Who knows sometime soon, our small
community may produce priests, nuns and
religious leaders, even civic leaders who are nurtured in , as Pope
Francis called for, mercy and
compassion.
We are thus knocking on your kind hearts to be our donors,
sponsors or contributors. All that we
receive will be properly acknowledge and
accounted for.
For the time being, Phase I will consist of a new altar and
putting up of 14 posts. Each post costs
P15,000.00
Sponsors
names will be etched on the posts and acknowledged in our fiesta souvenir program.
